First of all we are an independent auditing company with the primary goal of assisting our clients and protecting their interests. We do not sell or install insulation products, but are experts at assessing the energy performance of buildings and providing solutions. This is far different than a contractor, that has taken a short course on energy auditing, coming into your home to provide an energy "audit".
Is the contractor focused on your interest or his profit margins?
What if the best solution for your building involves a product which that particular contractor does not sell or install?
If the contractor actually is an insulation installer do you really think he will give much attention to your heating, cooling, hot water systems, lighting and site potential for renewable energy?
Who decides if the improvements meets established standards?
Will they really provide a comprehensive energy audit or are they using an "audit" to support their sales pitch?
Are they really recommending the lowest cost product that will solve the problem, or the product which they have the best profit margin?
Are they really fully trained, possess all the required equipment, knowledge, and skill sets to conduct a comprehensive energy audit?
Energy audits, new home ENERGY STAR certifications, and thermal imaging is all we do. This is our craft, we are highly dedicated to it, and it is far more complex than meets the eye. We focus 100% of our attention on building science, auditing, certification procedures, and thermography. This is in contrast to an insulation company that may or may not have taken the Building Performance Institute (BPI) five day course on energy auditing. Due to their business model they can only spend a fraction of their time on energy auditing with the majority of their time spent conducting other work.
Our training and standards far exceeds any in the business. Our auditors not only have the Building Performance Institute (BPI) certifications but also hold certifications from the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET). RESNET certification is very difficult to obtain and requires the highest standards in building science knowledge, proficiency, quality assurance, and integrity. Our position is that the basic certification from either of these two organization provides only a fraction of the knowledge base and skill sets required to conduct a competent energy audit. Any new auditor that joins the ThermalScan team, even with certifications from BPI or RESNET, must first complete extensive additional study and undergo significant training with one of our experienced auditors prior to conducting any work on his own.
We are highly trained in thermography and the use of our thermal imaging equipment and supporting software. We maintain rigorous training standards in all aspects of our use of thermography. This is in contrast to many in the field who purchase a thermal imager and immediately begin marketing infrared inspections without the slightest training or knowledge of basic thermography, its capabilities, and limitations.
Lake Region ThermalScan is an industry leader in New Hampshire. We were the first to combine the science and discipline of thermography into residential energy audits. We have set a standard that others are attempting to emulate. This is what we do and we do it better than anyone in the business!
